Seed 9 Rally Win!
02.24.07 – To the delight of the onlookers, Clive Skilton and the number 77 Jeep Grand Cherokee blazed across the finish line at this year’s Seed 9 Rally in 1st Place for Production GT and 5th Place overall! As of the morning registration, there were 27 entrants ready to test their rally cars against the harsh terrain of the Nevada desert. The ’06 Jeep Grand Cherokee fielded by Skilton was the talk of the rally with onlookers gazing at the plush interior, power windows, and fully operational Air Conditioning!
Navigating for Skilton was Boshart Motorsports’ own Dean Schlingmann. Accustomed to the driver seat, Schlingmann needed a couple stages to polish up on his right seat responsibilities. Skilton’s driving ability made up for the navigation learning curve as Skilton recorded a 113 mph straight away speed during the second stage!
Skilton’s plan for the day was to “go easy and test the Cherokee out” in preparation for the Australian Safari Rally later this year. Soon after starting, the competitive juices started flowing and the duo of Skilton and Schlingmann realized that they were making a bid for a top 10 finish.
Many competitors thought the 5700 lb Cherokee looked too shiny and overweight to compete with the upper half of the field, but the 5.7L Hemi engine put out more than enough power to overcome any thought of sluggishness.
When all was said and done, the Mopar sponsored Jeep was three minutes ahead of the next Production GT competitor after 40 stage miles. Skilton was elated with the results and is looking forward to competing in additional rallies this spring in preparation for the Australian Safari Rally in August. Skilton commented that “with additional testing and tuning, we may be looking at a top 3 finish for this Jeep.” Only time will tell. Rally on… |
